Dr. Lisa Sumption is a Licensed Acupuncturist (L.Ac.) currently practicing in the heart of New York City's Flatiron District. She received her Doctorate in Acupuncture and East Asian Medicine from the prestigious Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. She is nationally certified as a Diplomat of Oriental Medicine by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). She completed rotations at NYU Langone Medical Center, Beth Israel Medical Center, Montefiore Medical Center, and Pacific College Acupuncture Center during her training as a Traditional Chinese medical student. In 2011, she delivered several hundred treatments for chronic pain while participating in ADDOPT (Acupuncture to Decrease Disparities in Outcomes of Pain Treatment) a study assessing the adoption and implementation of acupuncture as a treatment for chronic pain in an urban primary care setting. She has guest lectured at Albert Einstein College of Medicine on Stress Reduction with Acupuncture and the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine on Natural Beauty Secrets from Chinese Medicine.
Aside from practicing acupuncture, humanitarian work has always been essential in Lisa's life. Her childhood mentor encouraged her to "think globally, act locally" and she has carried that with her into adulthood. She regularly volunteers with Habitat for Humanity, Big Brother's Big Sister's NYC, Mainchance emergency drop-in center and community-based acupuncture clinics offering free or low-cost treatments for people struggling with pain and addictions. In 2008, Lisa organized a month-long partnership with Hogar de Ninitas Maria Goretti and Marya Ayuda in Valparaiso, Chile to mentor children faced with neglect, abuse, and mistreatment.
